All-Area Team Announced

June 24, 2009

Congratulations to Pitcher Jennifer Gilbert for being named to the All-Area 2nd team. The Junior had a 1.10 ERA and a .456 Batting Average. Others honored from district 9-4A included Kathy Shelton (McKinney North), Alexis Cantu (Frisco Wakeland) and Shelby McCoy (Frisco Centennial).

McKinney Softball Honors Players at the End of Year Banquet

As always, the end of year banquet was a night for reflection on the past season and a good night it was. Kelsi McCarthy, the Senior, will be missed greatly. Kelsi earned Teammate of the Year honors 2 times in 3 years, and was also awarded a $1,500 scholarship from the MHS Softball Booster Club.

Greenway Named MISD Coach of the Year

McKinney ISD has named Coach Jeremy Greenway the 2008-2009 High School Coach of the Year. In only his 3rd year at McKinney High, he has created a McKinney Softball program that is continuously developing into a successful machine. The ever-positive Greenway led the Lionettes to their first Playoff appearance in 11 years and ended the season with a 25-10-1 record. In District play for the 3 years, the Lionettes have compiled a 21-21 record, 11-3 this season, earning the title Co-District Champions. Greenway attributes all of the success to the girls. "It's the girl's award, they are the ones on the field making the plays."
